The tourist importance of Castiglioncello begins in the XIX century when Diego Martelli, a famous artist, decided to live in this wonderful and mild landscape. Here he invited a lot of painters who belonged to the “Macchiaioli” group, beginning that artistic period known as “school of Castiglioncello”.
In the sixties Castiglioncello was the main meeting-point of the most important artists: actors and directors were fashinated by the beauty of this green landscape. Among them we remember Sordi, Mastroianni and Gassman.
Today Castiglioncello is one of the most famous beaches known in Italy and abroad for its beauty, its crystal clear sea and high quality of the services it offers.
