Deep in the heart of the Tuscan countryside, at only 2 km from the antique village of San Gimignano is where you’ll find the POLVERAIA FARM.
The Tuscan country with its vineyards, olive groves and surrounding wild brush...
La Polveraia was handed down from the ancestors of the current owners, Daniela and Maurizio.
There is one apartment made up of three large double bedrooms, each with its own entry way, fridge, heating, cable TV and private bathroom.
Use of a fully eqiupped kitchen is offered to our guests, and for those who want to enjoy a relaxing day, we offer a large sitting area with wide sreen TV.
THE FARM
La Polveraia Farm is a family owned and operated business, ORGANICALLY certified since 2002 with its core business being the production of typical Tuscan produce like wine, oil and grains.
The farm also produces small quantities of foodstuffs for internal use and consumption like saffron, vin santo, seasonal vegetables and fruits.
We also raise a variety of animals like horses, pigs and yard animals.
THE PRODUCTSTHE
WINE
Our red wine is “Chianti dei Colli Senesi” which is made mostly from Sangiovese grapes.
In the Polveraia Vineyards you will also find many of the classics of Tuscan tradition like Canaiolo, Colorino, Prugnolo, and Ciliegiolo, some as old as a 100 years of almost forgotten vineyards, guaranteeing absolute originality.
Our white wine is an IGT Bruscco produced mostly with Vernaccia (the DOCG of San Gimignano) with small amounts of Malvasia and Trebbiano.
THE OIL
La Polveraia’s Extra Virgin Olive oil is certified Tuscan IGP Podere Riposo and is obtained from arouns 1500 olive trees that are divided up in to three varieties: 35% Frantoio, 35% Moraiolo, 30% Leccino.
The 2005/2006 and 2006/2007 productions have held the prestigious “Five Drops” recognition as a symbol of excellence by the Italian Sommelier Oil Association for the last two years.
The Five drops recognition is the highest mark attributed by AIS to only 55 farms and over 700 oils tasted in all of Italy.
HOW TO FIND US
The easiest way to get to San Gimignano, whether from the North or South, is to take the Firenze-Siena Superstrada (SS) and exit at Poggibonsi Nord.
At San Gimignano take the road towards Volterra and follow for about 700 mt and then turn left for Montauto. Continue on an asphalt road for another 1500 mt and turn left on to a dirt road.
On your left you’ll see some barrels, turn just before them and you’ll be on the raod that leads to La Polveraia farm. |
