The Relais Villa Baldelli is a true discovery for the tourist. It is found immersed in silence and surrounded by the pleasant and generous serenity of nature, yet not too far away from modern needs.
“If one takes a look towards the sky, they will see rooftops and bell towers, like a painting suspended on the edge of heaven”, wrote the American writer Henry James when refering to Cortona, the oldest city in Italy.
Cortona, from its prestige and its mythology, tells an enchanting story ripe of divinity, of those such as Giove, Electra, and Dardan who founded and lived here, and of the heros Ulysses and Pitagora who were put to rest here.
Cortona is easily and quickly reached from the Relais. For the Tuscan region, it boasts with its breathtaking nature, works of art, archaeological findings, museums, Etruscan walls, medieval roads and houses, renaissance palaces, multilingual and wordly residents who flood the cheerful plazas, and finally the excellence of diverse and seductive food-fare.
The Relais is an antique villa from the 1700’s. The villa has been given a new life by those who have fervently and skillfully restored it without alterating its architectural and historical integrity, both internally and externally. Therefore, the original composition has been respected; the old well still in functioning condition supplied by an antique water main underground, garden alleys, age old trees that invite you with their comforting shade, sidewalks paved with slabs of rock, bedroom walls decorated with flowery frescoes and paintings of the time period. The rooms are also furnished with antique canopy beds and tables, taking you back into the Middle Ages.
Today the villa has 15 rooms available, 5 of which are junior suites, 5 that are deluxe rooms and the remaining 5 of which are classic rooms. On the ground level there is a hall where you will find a curious altar carved into the wall made in the 1600’s, next to this you’ll find the entrance to a sitting room with couches and tables.
Other things offered on the ground level include a small bar and eating area in which an antique stone hearth is elegantly placed. Only the up-to-date furnishings in the bathrooms, such as the jacuzzi bath, give the guest the idea that they are truly in the third millenium.
The Relais staff, apart from doing all things possible to make the guests feel welcome and cared for, will also be at one’s disposal for suggestions and ideas for naturalistic, gastronomic, and cultural itineraries available in the area and in Cortona.
There is also the convenience of a swimming pool (18 X9 metres) and a small Golf green, hiking paths for hikers, horseback riders and those with bicycles. |
